I received this story in my email and felt moved to share it. The story originally was published in "The Witchita Eagle" November 10, 2006 but has a timeless appeal. Chief Master Sgt. John Gebhardt's wife, Mindy, said that this little Iraqi girl's entire family was executed. The insurgents intended to execute the little girl also, and shot her in the head...but they failed to kill her. She was cared for in John's hospital but continued to cry and moan. The nurses said John was the only one who seemed to calm her down, so John spent the several nights holding her while they both slept in that chair. The girl was later released to a surviving relative.
He is a real Star of the war, and the hero of peace. You don't see things like this in the news, and it just goes to show you that every person anywhere can make a difference in the life of someone even if it is one little girl.
